There is always talk of, do I need a resume to apply for a job?
I favour resume these days over CV, not sure why, maybe my French is better than my Latin. I’m sure there will one day be some sort of Blockchain based Biodata that will replace all non-immutable versions won’t that be fun (and very accurate).
I think being resume ready requires effort and doesn’t go down well with the casually browsing for a job group. In fact being resume ready could be a job in itself.
As per my previous post ask ChatGPT to write you a resume and hope for the best. Only joking.
Boogie Nights Guest List
In a previous life I worked in clubland as a DJ. This was back in the 90’s and quite often before a gig I would get a call or text from someone saying something like,
“I haven’t got a ticket but can you put me on the guest list pls”
This person or persons would then rock up, go straight to the front of the queue and walk straight in, no ticket required.
So what does this have to do with resume writing; well…
For this analogy to work the “ticket” would be the resume and the “gig” would be the interview..
So lets assume I don’t have a resume ready but I want to go to the gig. Simply contact the Recruiter and explain the situation and maybe the recruiter will put you on the guest/interview list. Not very likely, but...
I have seen an influx of InMail’s chasing an application whereby the person had sent the resume but was in a large queue in my ATS. The effort to highlight their skills put them at the front of the queue whereby they got their ticket validated.
A twist on this could be for people with no resume but a very relevant LinkedIn profile.
This candidate would be at a clear advantage because having the conversation before producing the resume for the hiring team could mean that all the vital information to succeed in the selection process is amplified and in the right place.
Now I’m not suggesting that everyone contacts the recruiter directly, but I am saying if you are not resume ready but fancy a night out, why not reach out and try and get on the guest list.
